Summary
In 1943, three Cliffert brothers go off to war, leaving their young wives—Tood, Weetsie, and Sybill—to live with their mother-in-law, Ola, in rural Louisiana. When their story attracts the attention of Life Magazine publisher Henry Luce, he sends ambitious war correspondent Kate Miller to cover a "women's piece" and capture a photo for the magazine's cover. But Kate's perception of the assignment—and of the Cliffert women—is challenged as she spends a week immersed in their lives. She learns that beneath their charming facade lies a complex reality of hopes, fears, and a powerful struggle for self-worth in a world run by men. Filled with humor and heart, The Cover of Life is a deeply affecting story that explores the meaning of family, love, and what it truly means to be a woman.
