Summary
One of the greatest and most successful musicals ever filmed (1952, Gene Kelly, Debbie Reynolds and Donald O'Connor) - filled with memorable songs, lavish routines and Kelly's fabulous song-and-dance number performed in the rain. The musical is adapted from the hit MGM movie by the original writers and includes all the favorite songs and characters.
Set during the advent of "talkies," Don Lockwood has risen to stardom during Hollywood's silent-movie era - paired with the beautiful, jealous and dumb Lina Lamont. And when Lockwood becomes attracted to young studio singer Kathy Selden, Lamont has her fired. But with the introduction of talking pictures, Lockwood finds his career in jeopardy after audiences laugh when they hear Lamont speak in her shrill voice for the first time... until the studio decides to use Selden to dub her voice.
The cast of over 25 local singers and dancers will be augmented by a corps of children dancers – “The Raindrops” – who will entertain before the show and during intermission.
Mask & Mirror Community Theatre is always looking for new participants. In addition to the singers and dancers on stage it will take a massive number of community volunteers backstage and offstage to make “Singin’ in the Rain” a success.
